Britain [UK], October 3: The British Ministry of Defense said SSNAUKUS will be the largest, most advanced and powerful attack submarine used by the navy, integrating world-leading sensors, design and weapons.
Following the agreement that the leaders of the three countries UK, US and Australia (AUKUS) signed in March, the British Ministry of Defense recently announced the award of a contract worth 4 billion pounds (118,494 billion VND) to BAE companies. Systems, Rolls-Royce and Babcock to begin the design and development phase of a new generation attack submarine called SSN-AUKUS. This class of ships will run on nuclear power and use conventional weapons.
According to a statement, the British Ministry of Defense said SSNAUKUS will be the largest, most advanced and powerful attack submarine used by the navy, integrating world-leading sensors, design and weapons. The new contract will provide funding for development through 2028, including design, prototyping and procurement of key components and infrastructure construction. British submarines will be built mainly at the factory in Barrow-in-Furness in the northwest of the country. The funding will also help recruit more than 5,000 workers.
The AUKUS cooperation framework was established in September 2021 to help Australia own nuclear-powered submarines to replace the country's old class of diesel-electric ships. According to AFP, Australia will buy nuclear-powered submarines from the US and build a new generation of ships with US and British technology. Britain plans to deploy the first SSN-AUKUS in the late 2030s while Australia is expected to have ships in the early 2040s. According to a joint statement by the three countries in March, this submarine development agreement helps strengthen capacity to deter aggression and contribute to stability in the Indo-Pacific and globally.
