Tokyo [Japan], January 16: Japanese officials are discussing treating Covid- 19 as a seasonal flu, although the number of deaths in the current wave is increasing faster than before.
January 15 marks 3 years since Japan detected the first Covid-19 infection in the country, according to NHK. To this day, the virus is still spreading throughout the country.
On January 15, the Japanese Ministry of Health recorded an additional 108,281 cases of Covid-19, 415 deaths. The number of severe cases was 672, down 21 cases compared to a day ago.
The number of daily infections is showing signs of decreasing. However, the number of deaths after being infected with Covid-19 is increasing faster in this 8th wave.
As of January 14, Japan has 62,264 deaths from Covid-19, of which 7,622 cases were recorded in December 2022. In November 2022 there were 2,985 deaths while the previous month there were 1,864 cases. The first two weeks of January 2023, the number of deaths was 4,998.
Authorities only know the age of half of all deaths since December 2022, most of which are elderly.
