Washington [US], December 23: Reuters news agency on December 23 reported that US President Joe Biden recommended that those who want to visit family and friends for Christmas should go now, before many parts of the country witness extremely dangerous weather phenomena.
"Very dangerous and threatening, really severe weather from Oklahoma all the way to Wyoming and Maine. Therefore, I advise people to heed local warnings," Biden said from the White House .
"If you have a travel plan, you should leave immediately, no joke. I told the staff that if they plan to go tomorrow, they should go today," he said on December 22 (local time).
Heavy snow is expected to sweep across the Great Lakes region, with up to 50mm of rain before a quick cold on the East Coast, with gusts of up to 100km/h and cold weather reaching the border Mexico in the south.
President Biden plans to stay in Washington over Christmas and said he will receive reports from the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The White House has spoken with the governors of 26 states in the affected areas. "This isn't a snowy day like when you were a kid, this is serious," Biden warned.
