Hanoi [Vietnam], September 24: Despite not being a commercial film, 'Soobin live concert movie: All-rounder' is still creating a rather unique race at the Vietnamese box office.
By nearly noon on September 23rd, Soobin 's music video unexpectedly accelerated, temporarily surpassing "Len Huong" and "Ut Lan 2" in daily revenue. According to box office figures updated around noon on September 23rd, "Soobin live concert movie: All-rounder " grossed approximately 1.46 billion VND, bringing its total revenue to around 12.06 billion VND, topping the daily box office charts.
Compared to the total revenue of its two competitors, Soobin's figure of over 12 billion VND isn't particularly large. At the same time, "Len Huong" had reached approximately 81.09 billion VND, while "Ut Lan 2" was at 29.47 billion VND. However, the key point in this race isn't solely about accumulated revenue, but rather the ability to generate revenue from a relatively limited number of screenings for a musical film.
Previously, September 21st clearly demonstrated this difference. "Up Huong" grossed 588.67 million VND with 2,319 screenings, while Soobin's film earned 574.09 million VND despite only having 46 screenings. The film sold 2,882 tickets, averaging over 62 viewers per screening. The revenue difference between the two films at that time was only about 14.58 million VND, even though the number of screenings was dozens of times greater.
This is what makes Soobin's film a noteworthy case at the September box office. It doesn't compete on theatrical release coverage, but rather on its ability to focus audiences on each screening.
Soobin's film had quite impressive box office revenue.
The competition between "Len Huong ," "Ut Lan 2," and Soobin's concert film is essentially a race between three products with very different approaches to reaching the audience.
Director Khuong Ngoc's film " Upcoming" has the advantage of being a commercial film, belonging to the psychological-family genre with a spiritual undertone. The film has accumulated a large audience from early screenings and maintained high theatrical coverage after its official release.
Meanwhile, director Tran Trong Dan's Ut Lan 2 continues to explore the horror-supernatural genre, which currently holds a significant market share in Vietnamese cinemas. Over the weekend of September 18-20, Ut Lan 2 grossed approximately 21.35 billion VND, topping the weekend box office; Len Huong earned around 19.8 billion VND. Soobin's concert film ranked fourth with approximately 3.31 billion VND.
However, looking at the day-by-day developments, the "ballad prince's" film created impressive breakthrough moments. On September 21st, the film almost caught up with "Len hương" in terms of daily revenue. By September 23rd, the film continued to accelerate and at one point temporarily topped the daily box office charts.
This shows that a film's ranking on the charts doesn't entirely depend on the total number of screenings. Specifically for concert movies, the large audience and higher ticket prices compared to regular films are key to achieving different box office performance.
