Tehran [Iran], April 18: European Union (EU) leaders have agreed to impose new sanctions on Iran following last weekend's unprecedented attack by Tehran on Israel.
"We have decided to impose sanctions against Iran, which is a clear signal we want to send. The idea is to target companies that produce drones and missiles ", European Council President Charles Michel spoke at the EU summit in Brussels on April 17, according to AFP.
On the night of April 13 and early morning of April 14, Iran launched an unprecedented drone and missile attack against Israel, but did not cause much damage to Israel because most of the missiles and the UAV was intercepted.
That was Tehran's first direct attack on Israeli soil in response to the attack on the Iranian Embassy campus in Syria on April 1, killing 7 Iranian officers.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will decide how to respond to Iran's attack, while many countries called for restraint to avoid escalation.
In a statement at the summit in Brussels on April 17, EU leaders called on "all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any actions that could increase tensions in the region."
