Jerusalem (Israel), June 15: Israel on Tuesday launched a strategic plan to incorporate satellite technology and AI into the agricultural sector, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture.
With the involvement of the Israel Space Agency affiliated with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, a satellite will be employed to map the agricultural areas and identify areas suitable for growing crops, said the statement.
The satellite will also help assess the soil in terms of moisture, suitability for different crops, presence of pests, and more, it added.
In addition, new AI tools will be developed to streamline decision-making processes and obtain new information in the agricultural sector.
The plan also includes the promotion of alternative protein research, the setup of knowledge centers in the areas of plant phenotype and algal diversity, and international collaborations in agricultural innovation, the joint statement said.
