Libya's rival parties agree on roadmap for national elections within two years

Tripoli [Libya], August 31: Representatives of Libya's rival parties signed an agreement on Sunday to pave the way for holding long-delayed national elections within two years under unified national institutions and executive authority.
Oil-rich Libya descended into chaos following the 2011 armed revolt that toppled long-time dictator Moamer Gaddafi. It has become a battleground for rival proxy forces, which has in turn drawn in foreign powers. Two camps - the internationally recognized Government of National Unity based in the capital Tripoli and General Khalifa Haftar's government in the eastern city of Tobruk - are currently vying for power.
