Dhaka [Bangladesh], November 14: "Made in Bangladesh Week", the largest-ever apparel event of its kind in the country, kicked off in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka Sunday.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), also known as Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, calling on foreign investors to explore business opportunities in Bangladesh.
"We're establishing 100 special economic zones across the country. As a result, Bangladesh has now become one of the most favourable investment and sourcing destinations in the world," she said.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organized the biggest-ever event in the apparel sector in a bid to elevate the country's share in the global readymade garments (RMG) business to 10 percent by 2025 from the current 6.8 percent.
BGMEA has targeted to fetch home 100 billion U.S. dollars by 2030 from garment exports.
Representatives of leading major global retailers and brands are participating in the event.
The week-long event, with the theme "Care for Fashion" will run till Nov. 18.
