Washington [US], August 25: Netflix must think high-ly of The Gentlemen, because the streamer has officially renewed the Guy Ritchie-created television series for a third season before its second has even aired.
"The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight," Ritchie told Netflix's Tudum. "A third season felt inevitable, and I'm looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further."
The development comes amid reports that Meghan Markle is currently in talks to play an unspecified role in season 3. The Duchess of Sussex currently "remains in talks" to join the crime comedy, but "no deal has been finalized" yet, per PEOPLE.
Last Friday, the outlet reported that Markle was being "eyed for a part" on the series, which also stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario. That same day, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the Suits alum was in "advanced discussions" to join The Gentlemen, but that "it's unclear how many episodes she would appear in" because "the part is currently being written" for the then-unannounced third season.
Variety has since reported that season 3 of The Gentlemen is "due to go into production imminently," but that "no scripts have yet to be finalized, let alone new casting." Ritchie will also direct the third season, which he is co-writing with Matthew Read, per the outlet.
Martha Stewart attends the Hudson River Park Friends 10th Annual Playground Committee Luncheon at Tribeca 360 on March 06, 2026 in New York City; Duchess of Sussex and Founder of As Ever, Meghan Markle, attends Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025 at Salamander Hotel on October 14, 2025 in Washington, DC
The casting speculation comes after Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, recently announced they would be moving back to the U.K. with their two children this month. The Gentlemen is both set and filmed in England.
A spinoff of Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name, The Gentlemen follows Eddie Horniman (James) after he is bequeathed the family's massive estate following the death of his father, the Duke of Halstead. The only catch? There's a full-blown marijuana farm growing underground that's operated by the Glass family.
The second season will follow Eddie and Susie Glass (Scodelario) as they set their sights on conquering Europe and beyond.
"Season 2 was always going to be about Eddie expanding the reach of his criminal empire and testing the relationship Eddie has with Bobby Glass as the person he's working under," Read told Tudum.
In addition to James and Scodelario, The Gentlemen also stars Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, and more. Its second season is set to be released on Sept. 3 on Netflix.
