Caracas (Venezuela), August 9: The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) began on Sunday primary elections to choose the candidates who will participate in the national elections on Nov. 21.
"Have you already decided who to vote for in the mayor's office, the governor's office? Go vote! Let's vote! Make new history, make great history of true, direct democracy," said President Nicolas Maduro in a message broadcast on social media and state news.
"The day has come. We dreamed of it and the dream is becoming reality. The people decide, you decide, now everything depends on you," he said.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) will monitor the primary elections, in which 5,108 electoral centers will operate throughout the country.
The candidates chosen in the primary elections will appear on the party's ballot in the national elections on Nov. 21, when millions of Venezuelans will vote to fill more than 5,000 official positions.
