Doha [Qatar], April 28: Qatar's men's table tennis team will begin their campaign at the World Team Championships in London on Tuesday. The tournament which continues till May 10. features 64 men's and 64 women's teams, divided into 16 groups of four teams each.
Qatar's team includes Mohammed Abdulwahab, Fahad Al Mughni, Abdullah Abdulwahab, Sultan Al Kuwari, and Rawad Al Nasser, along with coach Vitaly Nekhvedovich.
The team delegation departed from Doha on Monday.
Qatar are in Group H alongside Croatia, Serbia, and Luxembourg. Qatar will meet Serbia on Tuesday, followed by Luxembourg on Wednesday, and Croatia on Thursday.
Qatar qualified for 2026 Worlds after achieving positive results at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar, India, last year.
Hamad Ahmed Al Hammadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, confirmed that the Qatar team members have prepared well for the World Championships through an internal training camp and participation in local tournaments.
Al Hammadi described Qatar's group as strong with higher-ranked teams, wishing the team all success and hoping that the players will perform well.
He explained that participation in the World Championships is an excellent preparation for the team before their participation at the 4th Gulf Games in Doha next month.
Al Hammadi noted that the International Table Tennis Federation will hold a celebration next Saturday to mark its centenary. He added that he will attend the Federation's General Assembly meeting in London, which will take place next Sunday.
