Belgrade [Serbia], March 11: Serbian President AleksandarVucic on March 10 accused the minority Albanian government in the breakaway province of Kosovo of intending to incite a war in which NATO would once again side with them.
"They want to drag Serbia into a conflict with NATO . (Kurti) Kurti of Kosovo wants to be like him [Vladimir] Zelensky, and I will become something like him [Vladimir] Putin," the president was quoted as saying by RT. Vucic mentioned the two leaders of Ukraine and Russia. "That's what they're after, that's what they've been doing all this time," Vucic said.
President Vucic made the remark when asked about the case of a Serb being prosecuted for war crimes during the 1998-99 conflict, which ended with NATO bombing of Serbia . In 2008, with Western backing, Kosovo declared independence despite strong Serbian opposition.
The Belgrade government refuses to recognize Kosovo's independence.
"They don't want to normalize relations, they want to humiliate Serbia," Vucic accused, adding that this would not happen.
The EU last month announced a proposal to "normalize relations" between Pristina and Belgrade, equivalent to Serbia's de facto recognition of the independence of the breakaway province and the right of Kosovo to join NATO, the EU and the Union. Country.
President Vucic said he has not signed any agreements and will never agree to those terms.
According to the Serbian leader, first of all, the EU needs to implement the 2013 Brussels Agreement, which provides for political autonomy for the Serbian minority in Kosovo. Albanian authorities have refused to apply this provision for the past 10 years, citing conflicts with the "constitution" of Kosovo.
While neither the EU nor the US has taken action to persuade Pristina to change her mind, the EU has just granted visa-free status to Kosovo people, while threatening an economic boycott of Serbia unless Belgrade follows the West's embargo against Russia.
