Hanoi [Vietnam], April 1: In a talk show, the star of the movie *Ghost Blowing Lamp: The Dragon Quest* revealed that, upon turning 41, she began devoting herself entirely to motherhood. Shu Qi even temporarily suspended her artistic activities for a year, rejecting all film offers to focus on improving her health.
The dream of becoming a mother remains unfulfilled.
Having a severe allergy history, the actress was forced to make strict lifestyle changes. She gave up her favorite foods like spicy hot pot and mangoes, avoided raw, cold, and spicy foods, maintained a strict daily routine, and controlled her body fat percentage to around 22% in preparation for pregnancy.
In her journey to conceive, Shu Qi combined both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. She underwent acupuncture three times a week and took herbal medicine twice a day for six months. In addition, the actress received multiple ovulation-stimulating injections and went through several cycles of in-vitro fertilization.
However, all efforts were unsuccessful. Doctors said that, due to her age and physical condition, Shu Qi's chances of conceiving naturally were very low, while in-vitro fertilization offered only a slim chance.
According to QQ , since 2009, when she was only 33 years old, Shu Qi had considered freezing her eggs. At that time, although she wasn't ready to be a mother, she still wanted to save the opportunity for the future. However, her busy schedule made this plan impossible to implement. By the time she turned 40 and got married, her health was no longer as favorable as before.
For nine years, from the age of 41 to 49, the actress persistently pursued her dream of becoming a mother. She shared that during hormone treatment, her body swelled, her skin broke out in severe acne, and her mental state became unstable. Shu Qi admitted to falling into a state of irritability, depression, and lacking the courage to look at herself in the mirror.
Faced with these difficulties, many stars in the entertainment industry supported her, including Andy Lau, who introduced the couple to top infertility specialists in Hong Kong . Even so, the actress's wish to become a mother has yet to come true.
Throughout their journey, Fung Tak-lun was always there to encourage her and never pressured her about having children. He turned down many job opportunities to be with his wife, changed his lifestyle, quit alcohol and cigarettes, and helped her overcome difficult times. Whenever Shu Qi was down, he would often comfort her: "Even without children, our lives are still complete. You are the person I married; whether we have children or not doesn't matter."
By 2024, the couple decided to stop treatment and consider adopting a child. Shu Qi also expressed regret for having pushed herself too hard and allowing her body to suffer so much damage over a long period.
Although she hasn't yet been able to fulfill the role of a mother, Shu Qi is admired not only for her successful career but also for her happy family life with her supportive partner. Besides acting, she has also made her mark as a director and recently won the Best Director award at the Busan International Film Festival for her debut project.
