Bangkok [Thailand], January 7: Thailand on Tuesday called on its neighbour Cambodia to comply with a recently agreed ceasefire after a suspected grenade attack on its territory.
A Thai army spokesman said a mortar shell had been fired from the Cambodian side of the border in the morning and landed on Thai territory. Cambodia later said the incident had not been intentional, according to the spokesman. The Thai military unit in the affected area warned Cambodia that it must be more careful, he continued. Thailand could be forced to take military countermeasures in the event of future incidents, he said.
The Thai military said one soldier was slightly injured in the incident, which occurred in the north-eastern Ubon Ratchathani province. The two South-East Asian countries agreed to a ceasefire at the end of December after weeks of heavy fighting.
