New Delhi [India], September 12: Vastu Shastra, traditionally associated with the principles of spatial planning and orientation, is increasingly being explored through contemporary approaches that seek to connect ancient Indian knowledge systems with modern requirements. Among those practitioners is Dr. Dev Swarup Shastri, who has developed an approach to Vastu that combines spatial analysis with elements of astrology, psychology and non-structural remedies.
According to Dr. Shastri, Vastu should not be viewed only through the lens of rigid directional prescriptions or fear-based interpretations. His approach focuses on understanding the relationship between people and their physical surroundings and applying spatial principles to residential, commercial and industrial environments.
His philosophy is centred on the relationship between time, space and consciousness.
“Astrology is the science of Time, Vastu is the science of Space, and Meditation is the science of Consciousness. True prosperity and peace are achieved when Time, Space, and Consciousness are in perfect alignment.”
Focus on Non-Destructive Vastu Solutions
A key aspect of Dr. Shastri’s methodology is the use of non-destructive Vastu remedies, aimed at addressing perceived spatial imbalances without requiring major structural changes or demolition.
His approach incorporates techniques such as element balancing, colour-based interventions, metal strips, crystals and directional adjustments. These methods are presented as alternatives for individuals and organisations seeking Vastu-based interventions while retaining their existing structures.
The approach is applied across different types of spaces, including homes, offices and industrial facilities.
Vastu Planning for Industrial and Commercial Spaces
Beyond residential consultancy, Dr. Shastri works on Vastu planning for industrial and commercial establishments. His methodology examines various aspects of a facility, including the movement of raw materials, placement of heavy machinery, storage areas and dispatch zones.
The planning is based on the traditional Panchatattva framework and seeks to create what he describes as a more harmonious spatial arrangement.
While Vastu-based interventions are traditionally understood as cultural and philosophical practices, Dr. Shastri’s approach attempts to apply these principles to contemporary operational environments, with a focus on spatial organisation and workflow.
Integrating Vastu, Astrology and Psychology
Another distinguishing feature of Dr. Shastri’s approach is the integration of Vastu with astrology and considerations related to human psychology.
Rather than evaluating a property solely on its physical orientation, his methodology also considers individual astrological charts and the behavioural and psychological context of occupants. Factors such as stress, mental well-being and the way individuals interact with their surroundings are incorporated into the broader consultation process.
The objective, according to his approach, is to develop spatial recommendations that take into account both the characteristics of a property and the individuals using it.
Taking Vedic Knowledge to a Global Audience
Dr. Shastri has also established DaivagyaG, a digital platform intended to make Vedic knowledge and consultancy accessible to audiences beyond India.
Through the platform, he provides Vastu-related guidance to clients across India and international markets, including North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The digital model reflects the growing use of online platforms to make traditional knowledge systems accessible to geographically diverse audiences.
Recognition and Public Engagement
Dr. Shastri has also participated in public platforms focused on Vedic knowledge and its contemporary applications. He has appeared as a TEDx speaker at Manav Rachna University, where he presented his perspective on “The Scientific Face of Vedic Wisdom” and discussed the relationship between spatial environments and human potential.
His work has also received recognition through industry honours, including the Best Iconic Award, along with other national-level recognitions associated with the field of Vedic sciences and Vastu architecture.
Reinterpreting Vastu for Contemporary Spaces
Dr. Shastri’s work represents an attempt to reinterpret traditional Vastu principles for contemporary residential, commercial and industrial settings. His approach places emphasis on spatial harmony, non-destructive interventions and the integration of multiple traditional and contemporary perspectives.
For Dr. Shastri, the central idea is that a building should be considered not simply as a physical structure but as an environment in which people live, work and make decisions.
His broader philosophy is that thoughtful spatial planning, when combined with an understanding of individual requirements and traditional principles, can contribute to a more harmonious relationship between people and their surroundings.
